Coding’s Endgame? You Can Build The Next Twitter (X) Without Code

I’m sorry software developers…

One year ago, I made a Social App using Bubble, a no-code tool. It showcased building a social media app without coding.

Does this mean real Twitter can be built without code? Will no-code replace traditional programming?

So, let’s dive in…

The future of software leans towards no-code. Gartner predicted a 23% increase in the global market for no-code tools in 2024. No-code addresses tech challenges effectively.

“No-code” is trending, attracting hefty investments.

Webflow raised $140M, Unqork $207M, and OutSystems $150M, promising to democratize software creation, eliminating coder bottlenecks.

Software engineers, however, remain skeptical. They argue no-code lacks precise control needed for their work.

So, what’s the truth? Is no-code a game-changer or just a passing trend?

We believe it’s a generational shift. Most software apps will be built without code, but complex applications will still rely on traditional coding.

Let’s differentiate between easy and hard problems in software development.

Easy problems (ideal for no-code):

Building a two-sided marketplace, like Airbnb for X, is often straightforward. Common solutions exist.

Hard problems (suited for full-code):

Complex elements in platforms, like machine learning algorithms or optimized pages for millions of page loads per hour, need precise solutions. No-code tools fall short here.

Why is no-code here to stay?

The majority of custom software tackles easy problems, making no-code a practical choice.

Hardcore coders will still handle the challenging aspects. A blend of no-code and coded solutions will prevail, addressing both easy and hard functionalities.

Should Twitter move to a no-code stack? For core functionalities, yes.

But, at Twitter’s scale, handling millions of users and tweets per second requires the precision of traditional coding.

Considering no-code for an early-stage social network? Absolutely.
